Godless Night is part of a series of small abstract canvases and artwork on paper all made at night, with dark undertones and very saturated colors. With two major wars and so much mayhem going on in the world, my sleep is completely fragmented and interrupted. Instead of fighting this recent insomnia, I started painting at night. The studio’s darkness and the solemn silence of the night brought up lots of existential questions and fears. Whatever our different political views, I don't know anyone at this point in time, not worrying or intensely debating about the future. As an atheist artist who lived among different continents, religions, and cultures, I wish all the Mighty Gods could bring some more cheerful news, lighthearted images, and peaceful nights for all.

Born in Modena, Italy Lives & works in London, UK Beatrice Dina's work explores themes of cross-cultural identity, migration, spirituality, and the fragility of human existence. Her vivid paintings merge at times lyrical abstraction with subtle representation, as the intent of her color-charged canvases is to connect with our deepest emotions and fears. Dina began her career in advertising as an art director, moving then to film production. Her diverse body of work includes documentary films, drawings, paintings, and sculptures. “I've always been attracted to the inner landscapes of human beings. When I paint, I work intuitively, not towards a narrative, like in filmmaking, but towards contemplation. I'm interested in the transcendental, the impermanence and transformation of all things; suffering and growth, human conflict, love and loss, and above all how we can arrive from the material to the immaterial.”
