About The Artwork

Graffiti, 36”x36”, Oil, acrylic, ink, wood stains and mixing mediums on canvas. “Graffiti” was my first take on full abstraction with no representational elements. For this piece, I was inspired by Jackson Polluck’s abstract expressionist pieces. Everything was done with palette knife and I wanted to work quickly and with a purpose. I layered color after color, introducing different textures and color themes each time around. Towards the end of my process, I wanted to continue to use new materials push the gravity of the piece. I used up the rest of some wood stains I’d been saving and turning the canvas in every direction to allow the paint to drip down each side of the painting. The final touch was the application of white paint through the center of the painting, the piece felt unbalanced and I intuitively felt the need to do something irrational but also necessary. The end product is a puzzle or a maze- people have claimed to see foxes, eyes, and looming characters. What do you see?

I am a 26 year old living in downtown San Diego. I grew up in LA county and went to school at UC Berkeley. I went into college as a collegiate soccer player with hopes of playing professionally. That did not come to fruition, so I began to think about what else I was passionate about, and that answer was art! I was successful in the art program with a lot of features in UC Berkeley's Art Gallery, Kroeber Hall. I had the incredible opportunity to study under great artists like John McNamara, Brody Reiman, Craig Nagasawa, Indira Morre, Randy Hussong, and many more. Once graduating in 2015, I decided to move back down south where I could be warm again and afford my rent :) Since being in San Diego, I leased my own art studio and became a working artist and curator. In 2018, I produced and curated 2 large galas in San Diego's oldest most historical art building, The Brokers Building Gallery. Both galas featured between 10-20 local and international artists. I recently decided to take a leap and become an Art Consultant for National Geographic, this job I did not enjoy so I am working on building as an artist and pushing myself to create consistently again.
