About The Artwork

Ethinc costumes always fascinated me - and of course also the often very decorative and interesting hats that go with different costumes in various places around the world. Unfortunately hats are less in use today, but once they would clearly indicate your social status. The color and shape or decoration of your hat could be a source of information about you - your job or your tribe even indicating if you were married or not. So your headgear could be a good source of information about a person without a word spoken. The happy red and white stripe I put just for the fun of it. It gives a happy background - the silver prints are a Japanese inspiration. The canvas is painted on the sides and needs no framing. My symbol is on the front and the artwork is signed on the back.

I was born in Denmark, and have been drawing and painting since early youth. I have lived in Germany and France, where I had my own fashion brand. I moved to Italy in 2000 and decided to give up fashion design and devote myself full-time to painting -- a decision I have never regretted. My chief source of inspiration are the many diverse cultures I have come across during my numerous trips. I always loved beautiful textiles, but I also draw inspiration from the shapes and color combinations of the traditional arts of China, Korea and Japan, and African and Oceanic tribal art. And I should not forget to add that I just love flowers and gardens - always an inexhaustible source of inspiration. I hope that the my paintings convey to the viewer something of the visual stimulation and excitement that I feel when I have created a new work.
