About The Artwork

This is a painting that I am signing as 2021 but was really my last painting of 2020. It sat in my studio for quite a while, stretched and leaning against a wall but undocumented and un-signed. (The date of signature is the date I consider a painting complete.) I don't really know why, I'm in love with this painting. It's got so much going on in it, but it holds its center in a sort of peaceful environment. It's like looking down into a pond and across the horizon at the trees and into deep space and deep into the structure of the atom all at once. In 2021 I've gotten back into making smaller paintings. This one proved to be the apex of the put-it-all-in-there and go-as-big-as-I-have-space-for trend that pretty much defined 2020 for me. Revisiting it now halfway through 2021 I feel a bit of longing for that state of mind again. This is acrylic and marker on raw (unprimed) canvas stretched over gallery depth (1.5 inch) stretcher bars. The painting is ready to hang with a wire installed on the back.
