ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This piece depicts the Hollywood skyline as a portrait of Hell. An elevator with wings falls from a hole in the clouds, drifting down over the Hollywood hills. The buildings glow, much like the way burning charcoal emits a red glow from within its black surface. A cubism style allows the viewer to see partially through the buildings, giving a sense of temporality and dreamlike perception.

Born in Kansas City Missouri, now a resident of Los Angeles for 25 years. Oil paintings and charcoal drawings were being made over all those years, while intermittent work in the film and television industry continuously informed. The current show is Technology Affecting The Soul; part of a lifelong series which considers the media as a conduit for many social conditions. Inspired by Spain's Picasso and Missouri mural painter, Thomas Hart Benton, the works are in dark expressionist style.
