About The Artwork

Home Grown When I laugh, you summersault. When I sing, you dance and blow bubbles, Rippling through two universes Upside down and back to front, Inside and soon out. Out into this homeland This land with gigantic cloud gods floating through streams of blue light Above clusters of skyscrapers. It is loud (this city) and busy, and neon Lights run wild at night here. Roads run endlessly. Never ending flyovers, motorways, dual Carriageways; thoroughfares and Snickets, Where clusters of worlds intermingle Thrive and survive. Where you my child will find your place. A little mobile of shells dangle In your freshly painted Room. With soft blankets and a Teddy— My teddy that I held as a child— Sitting with It’s animal curtain backdrop Where the sun rises across your backyard. I wait with wonder, for your entrance, I wait with the trees in forests With calm quiet forest breeze I wait with anticipation for it For You. My home grown miracle.

I studied 20th Century Theatre and fell in love with the world of Antonin Artaud and many of the surrealists of the time. Often i would paint sets and make collage paintings of the world of the play. Growing up in North Yorkshire and now The Pennines I find my paintings are a little bit wild and a little bit surreal. I'm interested in the supernatural aspects of life and its interaction with the physical world, what it is to be human. Some of my work is emotionally driven by power and conflict, freedom and social change as well as dreams, isolation and love. After years in the theatre, there is also an element of an actor preparing. I use acrylic and canvas and sometimes masonite.
