Human Concept #1 Print

This work is part of the Human Concept Series. I am fascinated by mind research of Donald Hoffman and others who are mapping what we know as "reality." Turns out true reality would be way too much for us to navigate so our minds are adapted to conceptualize ideas to make it easier for us to survive. Over millions of years we have created conceptual avatars to navigate our world. The things we think we know... like ourselves, time, space so on are all conceptual and really only exist in consciousness. This blows my mind and I think about it all the time. This series is time consuming. Every painting was started with a sculpture that I made using a 3D pen. I then shine a light on the sculpture and cast the shadows onto the painting surface and compose. I build layer upon layer to suggest the past is still in the present. Sometimes I need to create new sculptures to resolve a piece. The sculptures are usually destroyed in the process and are just a tool to create the painting. Obviously I am inspired by people like de Kooning, Picasso, Condo, and Bacon with these. They too were interested in the psychology of their time. This is a continuation of that tradition. This is an ongoing series and this is your chance to get the early work. Painted on THICK 100% cotton archival quality paper. This DOES NOT come with the shadow box frame in one of the photos. That is just the way I would do it. You are free to present it however you see fit. That is scary for me but I know you will do a great job loving my babies. I am building these frames and hoping to offer them at some point.
