About The Artwork
I painted this when I was 17 and my brother actually modelled for me. I had always wanted to do an over-simplified portrait which had the outer-worldly feel of Bosch's paintings, a painter whom I admire tremendously. It is the very first time experimenting with my photorealistic / illustrative style in order to convey the idea of 'The Uncanny'. I love the concept of 'realistic' looking figures or elements combining in a surreal way. The 'I feel odd' phrase is a nod to Kafka's Gregor Samsa from 'Metamorphosis'.
