About The Artwork

This is a tribute in the form of a Pop art, multimedia painting and collage for my musical hero John Lennon. I began this initially as a painting of his face, followed by a spectrum of colours radiating outwards from his frontal chakra. The colours were chosen to reflect him such as: Red - for his hometown Liverpool, Green - for his Irish ancestry, Sky Blue - for Imagine and Yellow - for his yellow mellow custard and amazingly creative character. For his face, the intention was to make him as chromatic and vibrant as possible, using colours straight from the tube, but also adding highlights and shadows to give it as much depth as possible with just 3 shades of each colour, whilst also trying play with adjacent shapes and contrasting colours to add hidden and relevant elements. For example, can you see the dead dog and the yellow mellow custard dripping from the eye? or the two interconnecting faces, one of which is a cheeky looking young boy (possibly John in his youth with his tongue sticking out) within the shadowed or negative spaced area of the face. The other face resembling an older man in a rather “Punch and Judy” sense, again, John the joker. I then made a bold decision to change the background into a collage effect. Pulling in as much personal information as I could manage such as news headlines, drawings, handwritten lyrics etc. After randomly tearing up the bits, I then reverse engineered them back together onto the canvas, attempting to create juxtapositions wherever possible to add elements of surprise and shock, just as John would have. Painting over the collages with a thin and pale transparent glaze of acrylic colour within each segment gave the overall painting much more depth as the vibrancy of John's face appeared to "jump" forward from the canvas. Materials used - Wooden supported Canvas, acrylic paint, paper collage. Frame - I intend to put this work into a wooden studio styled frame which can be included in the sale without any extra cost

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

A multi-disciplinary artist, mainly taking inspiration by the old masters (Caravaggio in particular) but also post Impressionism, Orbic Cubism, Statement and Punk Art, I'm particularly drawn to composition, materials and colours and aim to add my conceptual twist. Analysing the abstract elements within and around figurative subjects and the "negative" spacings on the canvas. Mainly using media such as oil and acrylic, I'm also experimenting with discarded materials such as glass and tin to create large scale sculptures to convey a juxtaposition of these materials within mainstream societal mindset. I am hoping to exhibit my recent collection of artwork once the Covid19 restrictions have been lifted and look forward to developing new concepts.
