This painting reflects an inner moment that I had. Quite an "aha" moment! I had gotten some, what I felt, "Bad" news. My first reaction was to get on the phone and make the people involved see how wrong the decision they had taken, was. But then I remembered that I had made a deal with myself. I promised myself to reflect deeply upon that what was triggering me every time I would get upset by something. So I gave the whole deal a bit of space, and came to the conclusion: I actually don't have a clue of what is "best" for me. Something might look good for me, but does it actually make me grow, or teaches me to love more? Usually we learn more in tough times. And it also occurred to me that we are all on the earth to learn from each other... so perhaps this change would get me in contact with somebody who would give me valuable information, or vice-versa. So I decided not to react, to keep my lips shut, but my eyes open and observe what was happening with this whole deal. Now and then my old thinking habits would pop up, trying to babble me into taking action, but I gently ignored them. In this painting, the hair-strings are my thought-strings, and they try to make me look away from the observer-point, by softly pulling to different sides. Whenever that would happen, I would remind myself: "I only know that I don't know anything"... The sides of this artwork are painted as well, so it's ready to hang as it is, soon as you've unboxed it! I've signed it on the front, and you'll find the title, date and my signature on the back-side. Thank you for supporting my art!!!

My name is Monique van Steen and I am dutch artist who lives and works in the beautiful city Barcelona. In my early 20's I fell in love with the Spanish life-style.
The passionate form of living life captivated my heart, yet it was foremost the mediterranean light that seduced me.
This light enhances all the worldy colors and this inspires me to paint with the vibrant colors my artworks are now known for. The ever moving inner feminine world is what fascinates me as an artist. I portray strong women,
strong in their fierceness, strong in their hopes,
yet also strong in their sensuality, in their vulnerabilities and doubts… yet always theirselves.
My style is aligned with that,
I speak in a visual language that is easily understood: Urban pop art.
The flowing outlines speak a clear message and the vibrant colors add intensity to the personality of the depicted feelings.

The Modernist era, ever so present in Barcelona with the recurring natural and female features in the architecture and urban furniture are a traceable influence in my art,
enchanting your eyes and your heart.
