About The Artwork

This work is inspired by my personal experiences as well as a Tweet, included in the work along with the date it was posted, that encapsulated my emotions perfectly. The work discusses a betrayal of hope, represented by the two eggs (one cracked, one whole and hopeful). More than a betrayal, however, this work highlights the feeling one may feel that after being betrayed, you knew the whole time what was coming (represented by the woman looking out at the viewer) and perhaps your betrayer intentionally led you down a dark path (in green) the whole time. The child at the edge of the pond represents a lost innocence and naiveté. Overall, it is a painting about heartbreak and I hope sympathetic viewers can be comforted by its ability to point to complicated emotions and unsympathetic viewers-- perhaps those who betray-- will be unsettled.
