About The Artwork

“Zugzwang” in the game of chess means that a player is compelled to move even though any possible choice will worsen his position. The game of chess is represented by Raciti as a metaphor of a “compulsion move” that life offers as a privilege but is inevitably a lost game. Although our liberum arbitrium gives us the capacity to experience a wide range of incredible emotions and passions that Raciti visualizes on his chess board with a strong visionary power. Therefore, we find in his artwork the primordial force of nature and the intensity of human passions that create an immortal source of energy reaching the peak in “LSD Last Supper Drama” cycle, through a perspective, by contrast, that nearly investigate what was considered obvious over the centuries.

Agatino Raciti. was born in Catania. After taking his secondary school certificate in Istituto d’arte, he graduates in architecture and opens “A&A” in Catania, an Art and Design studio. He takes part to various national and international design competitions. He wins in 1996, when still a student, the competition “ il centro nei centri, 12 piazze per il territorio di Messina”. In 2001 he decides to organize his first art painting exhibition called “Violence of Life” to Catania and a year later he goes on with “soul landscapes” to Taormina and “ Reliquemis” to Trapani until 2003, when he exhibits in the PALAZZO DELLA TRIENNALE in Milan with ”dove abita l’utopia”, a collective exhibition dedicated to Libero Ferretti. In 2002 he wins the “ Napoli Cultural Classic” in the painting section. The success he has gained and the selection for the first painting exhibition in Fonopoli, gennaio 2003, have pushed him to organize a lot of exhibitions in different national and foreign towns. Agatino lives and works between Catania and Milan, His artistic work wants to be an apparent transposition and temporary simulation of all those situations eluding modern life and that , on the contrary, disclose and reveal in private, far from authoritarian and conservatory schemes.
