About The Artwork

This piece is framed. It has a wooden black/gloss frame. Impressions of the Floating World I and II are a more primitive and generalised expression of the Japanese ‘Floating World’ influence. Common for the ukiyo-e print are clean tones and flat perspectives, as is expressing an awareness of impermanence and sustained movement. The understanding of life as being under constant change is important in both Impressionism and Japanese aesthetics. It is about noticing and dedicating the self to a present moment and its beauty. Within these paintings I have tried to create a sense of movement and on-going action to attract the viewers attention. Through the use of colours and decorative elements, I wish to create a bold simplistic expression, making colours and abstract form the focal point of the work.

My illustrative paintings seek to present the world of impermanence and fleeting beauty. By combining iconic Art Deco design elements with Japanese and Korean motifs, I hope to lift the viewer into a contemplative world, rich in colour, texture and emotion. I have lived and travelled extensively in the far east. I studied Fine Art at Central St Martins School of Art and Design. I also studied at the design school Ecole Nationale Superieure de Arts Decoratifs in Paris. I am also interested in the role of aesthetics in political culture.
