About The Artwork

Sometimes you need to break away. Sometimes you need a reprieve from something so that you can gain perspective and that is exactly what this piece helped me with. I needed to get out of my head whilst ‘in the midst of’ a three piece series that I was overthinking. I approached this in a different way than I usually do and just went with the flow. The two dominant colours indicate being torn between following a plan and allowing for more freedom in my work. Throughout my work the common thread is vibrant colours and mostly self discovery and acknowledgement and this artwork is no different. The use of primary colours was so that I could shed the decision paralysis and minimise the usual procrastination when starting a new piece and it worked. I was able to jump in a lot more comfortably. This art work is one step closer to me growing within my own style and trying to refine some of the techniques I prefer.

I am a South African artist who took up Visual arts in high school and then went from pursuing engineering to being a full time entrepreneur and self-taught artist. My creativity and ideas stem from emotion and I use art as an outlet. In my work I expose 'me'. I use art as a platform to spark conversations about mental health, cultural and social issues. I make use of a lot of personal elements of my identity to create art. I create expressively and appreciate not needing to conform to the norms. I prefer doing works with acrylic paint but have grown quite fond of mixed media.
