ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This piece was created following a weekend spent at Lowther Castle and Gardens, being inspired by the architecture of the castle as well as the structure of the trees growing in the courtyard. Lowther Castle is an intriguing ruin with gardens cultivated to grow within and through the ruins. I hope the abstract nature of the work shows how landscape, architecture and weather all combine to create an experience of being 'in' the space. The use of natural materials such as peat and elderberry add to the immersion of the experience.

I have seen life from many sides and aim to celebrate this richness and variety in my work. Whilst I have always painted, I began painting full time in 2019 and use my rich and vibrant history and experience to inform the celebratory nature of my work. I make bold, energetic, vibrant paintings, sometimes using contrasting materials such as plastics soldered onto the canvas alongside gold leaf, peat and other materials found in the landscape, asking the viewer to consider the impact of our actions on our beautiful planet. I have twice been selected as part of a collection for Saatchi and was shortlisted for the Visual Artists Association UK and International Scholarship Award 2022.
