About The Artwork

Based on my 'Invisible Series' (2018) this painting was created to translate my emotional thoughts and feelings about the IVF procedure. The doctors and nurses are fantastic, but the sterile process itself can be de-humanising for the couple. With this piece I wanted to express my thoughts and feelings of trying to create life via a scientific procedure. The work explores the raw emotions I have experienced through the corrosive effects of infertility. Whilst these experiences are highly personal, I believe that by exploring these emotions in my work I am creating a voice where one might normally be at risk of being suppressed and hidden. I hope the piece engages the viewer to pause and think about the painting and the complex issues it's raising. Signed on the front.

I draw my inspiration from the constant possibilities of painting and the challenge of its unpredictable nature in conveying a subject. I am most interested in the process of painting and the expression it provides, translating a depth of feeling that is both personal but also shared with the viewer. Psychotherapy has directly influenced recent work and renewed my interest in abstract expressionism with the freedom of colour, line and allowing the subconscious and memory to guide my work. My current work explores the raw emotions I have experienced through personal challenges including the corrosive effects of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), infertility and a recent incurable auto-immune disease diagnosis. Whilst these experiences are highly personal, I believe that by exploring those emotions in my work I am creating a voice where one might normally be at risk of being suppressed and hidden.
