Human activity is the most riveting subject for me so that has been the focus of my gaze for as long as I can remember ,people in buses ,planes and trains,at cafes and beaches,seated at computers or windsurfing. This painting of Artist Judy Rogers uses her clothing pattern as the background for the portrait and was drawn as part of my residency project 12 Faces at Fremantle Arts Centre. I hope viewers will feel a closeness to the subject and get an idea of her personality. I chose Oil on board because it allows the layering of paint glazes and has been a new direction for me in terms of technique and method of creating a piece that I have not previously used,that of putting the sitter against a pattern instead of a blank background.
