This oil painting was heavily inspired by American ballet dancer Kylie Shea. ‘Just Dance’ is a look at form and how one person through movement can convey many emotions. Combining three poses, this piece intends to show a mess of cathartic energy. My hope with this piece is that you get a sense of the hard work and range of emotions that goes into choreographed dance and to portray a sense of catharsis as the figure moves from one state to another. We all feel multiple emotions is quick succession and this is so true of modern dance. I love painting in oil, it gives a freedom that I think perfectly suits the emotions I'm hoping to get across. The painting is tray framed in a beautiful wooden frame and is ready to hang.

Ryan is a Brighton & Hove based portrait artist who now works almost exclusively in oil paint. He completed a degree in Art & Design and Media Studies back in the late 90s. It was 2019 when he decided to put a 15-year career in publicity aside to once again feed his creativity and pick up a paint brush. His portraiture comes from a fascination with people and their emotional motivation, and he seeks to find the real person behind the face that we show to the world. Sometimes all it takes is a look in the eye or a slight curve of the mouth to capture the essence of a person and this is what drives his paintings. Through his work he seeks to find connection with people, hoping that they learn something about him and in turn learn something about themselves. “I’m not always interested in literal likeness when I paint a subject but in what gives a person their uniqueness. I love to paint something that brings joy to someone, and it really is my motivation to paint.” Ryan is a instinctive artist and buyer of art. If it makes him feel something he'll fall in love with it. His hope is that his work gives people that same visceral feeling. He works in his studio conveniently placed in the back garden, usually with his dog Daisy snoozing nearby.
