About The Artwork

Kamikaze was inpired by a picture I saw at social media, there was a picture of a motor oil spill on the ground that was liked by hundreds of people and I was disgusted by it, but a moment after it, I realized what went down inside of me that was different from other people. My feeling came from looking at it and seeing the negative impact while others looked at it's rainbow-like coloring and it's beauty, without overthinking. I liked this duality, how a raibow like coloring and beauty cand hide a destructive ugliness inside. In addition, I am much concerned with the devastating consequences of our human activities and it's negative impact on the environment, like global warming and increasing natural disasters. Visually putting my painting alltogether was the most challenging and a longest process then ever before because oil spills in water is a visual challenge plus I wanted to work on my biggest canvas to date. I started to work on this canvas for at least 6 times in a horizontal form and the oil spill and other elements just didn't came together, when it hit me, that in the vertical form, everything will come together and at least I had my time with the theme and I chewing on it helped clarifying the image, making it simpler, more impactful. Eventually on the vertical form I drew up the golden ratio, and started working on my picture. The painting takes place in a Biblical flooded world which was caused by the melting of the ice caps but this flood is also poisoned by the hand of man, so it is full of oil and it has the last remaining polar bear balancing on a circus ball that indicates the vulnerability of wildlife because of man and it's circus on Earth, and then there's the matchstick in the bears mouth which is what makes the painting ''Kamikaze'', it plays with the idea that one day our planet will be so polluted that even a single flaming matchstick would be able to blow up and destroy the Earth. In other words, the polar bear kind of says ''If I die, you die'' and the balance should be felt, since balancing on a ball with a matchstick in the mouth on a slippery ice is not easy. After a long time into the picture, I had another feeling about it, It was speaking about the negative impact but there was no room for hope and I didn’t want every element of my painting to radiate negativity and I am fond of the golden mean, to balance the bad with the good, to be neutral so people will stay before the painting and think about it so that's when the white dove came in also a reference from the Bible, it's the dove that came back with an olive leaf, meaning that there's land. I wanted to put the dove above the polar bear, because so the polar bear can't see it and this makes the dove a ghostly, mythic figure that is more like a moral, emotional support and in the same vertical line i've also added a wound dressing as a symbol to healing, healing the Earth and even a bit of sarcastic view of superficial human attempt to solve problems, because I believe that we can do better.

I am a hungarian artist from Transylvania, Romania. I am an autodidactic painter, sculptor and graphic designer.
