Born in Quebec City, Canada and now residing in Markham, Ontario, Robin was greatly influenced by the modernist authors she studied and saw herself becoming a poet as she evolved in her creative writing practice. She pursued advanced education in literature to finally settle in a teaching career. While the teaching of technical and business writing is far from the poetic traditions she studied, she is grateful to have worked with hundreds of students to impart practical writing skills they can use once employed. Her artistic practice is a welcome relief from the linear and confining conventions of business and technical communication. Robin finds freedom and challenge in the abstract genre: beginning with an intuitive and expressive approach that is gradually shaped and refined to deliver a commentary on several themes: memory, learning, social conventions, workplace incongruities, and geometries of space. A self-taught artist, she uses acrylic and mixed media on stretched gallery and raw canvases, as well as wood panels and paper. Media used include fabric, paper, text, mirror and glass fragments, and whatever else adds to the meaningfulness of a piece. As president of the Markham Group of Artists, she strives to support a small community arts group in their wish to improve on skills and share their art.
