About The Artwork

My painting shows the passage of the Pinta and the other two ships of Christopher Columbus in front of Saint Martin. It announces a difficult future for its inhabitants, the Arawak are not warriors, and were already subjected to the possible attacks of the dangerous Caribbean Indians. Everything is then still possible. This painting could therefore be called the money instants of happiness, or the pacifist utopia of the Arawak.

Western culture has for principle to consider that a pictorial and or plastic work of art is the result of a first cerebral act and would be in a way that the illustration of this primordial logocratic act which will define with precision what the hand of the artist will have to realize. Spirit of contradiction or simply deviance, I have always proceeded in another way and more particularly for my drawings where I let my hand produce an image almost automatically and above all without thinking. I sign and date the drawing, then I let "the thing" mature for a while before giving it a title which is meant to be one possibility among others and could therefore be quite different if it had been defined on another day. This title more or less takes into account what the drawing and where the plastic work shows elements that could be significant and or in any case could give rise to a "literary interpretation", even if it remains very highly uncertain.
