About The Artwork
The painting "Lone Birch" began by looking out my studio window at the end of Fall. The way light hit the birch tree was all I needed for inspiration. The distribution of light and shade or chiaroscuro helped create the intense drama of white birch bark against the turbulent foliage surrounding it. It is my desire for the viewer to be struck by the movement, color and mystery that happens here. For time to stop momentarily, so they can travel into the darks, lights and be stirred by the feeling of the painting. I chose oil paint for it's unparalleled richness and intensity of color. The constant changes of nature fascinates me so I paint it. This painting is framed in dark wood, ready for display.
