About The Artwork

Born in a culture that does not recognize artistic interests as a valid vocation, Maelle Bah stopped drawing following a traumatic event as a preteen. Little did the artist know, the trauma, the internal dissonance with her artistic side will last over 20 years. This is her journey back to herself. Signing all her painterly art as Xin Eria, the artist acknowledge with that signage what remained of that self she is now looking to reconnect with. Maelle Bah paints of life struggles and hardships, of the good and dark legacy of history, of humanity at its best and worst. She paints about chains and freedom, peace and turmoil; of being a woman, a daughter and a mother. Her fascination with nature, the sky and bodies of water is palpable and congenially conveyed with a naked candor.
