Leaning In is an abstract visual poem about storms and structures, mental health, and perseverence. I live on the Gulf Coast of Florida where we have so many homes on stilts right along the edges of the coastline. Interesting homes with gorgeous views. I love them all. Big and small, simple and elaborate. I would live in one in a heartbeat if I had the means. With these expansive, unobstructed views comes great risk. We've been getting hit by more severe weather the past few years from roof splintering water spouts, to devestating hurricanes. This painting is a comission asking for a stark piece on the emotional resolution, risk, and the tenacity to 'shore up' and not only accept the beauty of life, but its more difficult moments. This richly sober piece reflects our inner and outer struggles while living on this big gorgeous planet. I'm offering open edition prints of Leaning In exclusively via Saatchi Art. If you are interested in comissioning a painting in 2024 please contact your Saatchi Art Advisor and we will walk through this proccess together! I hope you enjoy the beauty of life even as you are 'leaning in' to the storms. -M

Mechelle (aka, Miki ⚓️) is a traditional and digital artist living alongside the Gulf of Mexico. She loves hiking, running, reading (all the genres), van camping/boondocking, snorkeling, and freediving. Mechelle is currently working on her PADI Freediving Certification and hopes to pursue an ever deepening life long practice within this meditative sport community. She loves the sea... sky, desert, forest, field, and mountains. Her main sources of inspiration for the past decade or so have been the horizon (mostly coastal these days), mythology, and the illusions of stillness in nature. Her work has been described as Meditative, Simply Elegant, Arresting, Curious, Beautifully Zen, and Contemplative. As a thalassophile... and lover of all things intracoastal and pelagic, Mechelle typically heads out to the Gulf to catch the muted cotton candy colors of the western horizon as the sun rises behind her in the east. She loves to paddleboard, film, or walk the shoreline with her rescue dogs Rogue & Rosie before starting her day in studio or on the water. Mechelle is a Taurus, and muses that it may play a role in her particular love for the shoreline, that magical place where the sea and land kiss, and together create subtle and dramatic exchanges 24/7. Please have a look around, and if you are interested in purchasing or commissioning a piece of art. Contact the Saatchi curatorial team and they will excellently mediate this journey. Each piece is expertly packaged and shipped to Saatchi's pristine specifications. Artist's Certificate of Authenticity included. ° Thank you for your interest in and support of independent artists.
