VIEW IN MY ROOM
Not who or what inspired the work. What caught my eye was a large picture of an Asian woman's face on a full page ad in the Wall Street Journal. I had started a small painting by adhering magazine pages with imagery that might suggest ideas for subject matter. However, the face in the ad seemed to lend itself for portraiture. As I painted the face I decided to use the picture of leaves and flowers on the magazine page adhered on the canvas as her hair. I then painted the background blue to delineate the shape of her head, keeping a woman's face that was on another magazine page I had adhered previously. It's possible the use of combining/incorporating photographed imagery with hand-painted imagery would result in an uncommon visual experience for the viewer.
