About The Artwork

I created this painting on the theme of ethnic cleansing of indigenous people from their homelands, primarily on the subject of Kashmir for an exhibition that curated artists painting for the rights of people in Kashmir. My intention was to depict the innocence and raw human emotions of a soul stuck in a hell like that. The dove represents the peace 'flying off' in the opposite direction and leaving the subject to suffer silently. If looked closely, the eyes appear to question the onlooker about the situation depicted which is exactly my motivation behind creating this piece, that is, to make one ponder and stop to think about indigenous people living through hell. To get to know more about my art process, thoughts behind the creations or to simply get in touch, you can follow me on instagram @nameenazeem.

Born Pakistani and residing in Lahore, Nameen Azeem is a traditional and digital artist who dabbles between both mediums of expression. Her paintings and illustrations revolve around deeply embedded human emotions. There exists a darker side of emotions that which is often catered through deep tones and shadows in her fine art pieces. "One's vulnerability to the raw human emotions and the tricky side of human mind have always been intriguing to me. This obsession combined with personal esoteric experiences led me to create illusory images. Each piece has a story behind it and that gives breath to new concepts that i transfer to my next canvas." - Nameen Azeem
