When I finished the sketch for this work in the sketchbook I wrote behind it ‘more whites, wet texture, more liquids, mucus and blood’. I wanted to give them the naked look like they are touching each other beyond their skin, like the skin had vanished. But at the same time I didn’t want to paint muscles and veins and all of what would look like the skin was scalped off because it will make it connected to pain. Here it’s something abstract and ethereal, it exists in their mind. Maybe the proximity itself is in their minds too. The other side of this painting for me is uneven devotion. It’s a story of a short but vivid relationship in which I felt desirable and euphoric around him, but a miserable current aim of his when he was away.
