Made in # GDR Print

Series of artworks “Made in #…” Dozens or even hundreds of words stick together into one with a hashtag sign (#) at the beginning. Hash tags are the universal language of our time. How many hash tags, if desired, can our reality be decomposed? A couple thousand? A couple tens of thousands? Instead of a hundred million words... But this is not an invention of the last decades. At all times and epochs, there were their own systems of signs and symbols. In the seventies and eighties of the twentieth century, to the east of the Berlin Wall, they were just tags, but they could also tell a lot about people, places, things, finally. About a whole era, which not so long ago disappeared over the horizon, not only along with things, people, but also entire countries. Consumerism in the era of the USSR is a strange phenomenon and obscure to contemporaries. It was not banal consumerism, but a complex system of social relationships, strictly defined signs that became social markers. The “Made in #…” series includes three works. Made in #Czechoslovakia Made in #Yugoslavia Made in #GDR The works were exhibited at the exhibition of contemporary art "Life as art, art as life", which was held in Kiev from 06/01/2021 to 06/20/2021.
