"Madre" is a contemporary 3D figurative painting. It is an original piece created using a number of different mediums, such as oil paint, acrylic paint, charcoal, paper, organza, glue, beads, bamboo and wall paints. It is extremely rich in texture, to the point of being three-dimensional. The painting portrays a woman (a mother) with three arms (to symbolize the capacity of mothers to handle multiple tasks at the same time and to keep it all together), covered in materials; a metaphor for the great responsibilities and weights she has to carry. The woman wears a crown that instantly recalls the figure of Jesus. The woman's face is covered by a veil of organza, which creates interesting variations depending on the lighting. Here is some information about the thinking process behind my pieces. Most of my paintings start from pure abstraction; after the first two or three layers of color are deposited, I start looking for interesting shapes that I transform into figures. In this specific case I reversed the process and painted the detail of the face first. I like to combine fantasy with reality and to present real life elements in uncommon spaces, using brush movement to connect the painting to the emotions. In this painting I have chosen to use mostly vibrant reds, yellows and black, which to me are representative of the femminine universe.
