About The Artwork
Male Dancer #4, one in a series of ten small paintings about abstraction and movement - a combination that I have returned to many times previously and will no doubt do so again. Other challenges were composing to a square frame, composing small, and working with a very limited bright color pallette. The choices led to a cartoonish treatment which I decided to work with rather than making the painting more 'painterly'. To my way of thinking, this series remains firmly rooted in expressionism - my favorite means of artistic expression.
