About The Artwork

I didn't like this work when I finished it, all kinds of reasons but I can't remember them much now. I was on my own on a long train journey in mainland China, looking out the window. I recollect the train passing some satellite town of a bigger city. There was a flyover, not completed and by the look of it not going to be. A solitary man of 40 something stood on a precipitous ledge I think. Our gazes met and momentarily locked. I had the feeling something wasn't right. The train sped on. The experience stayed with me and caused me to attempt this painting. It became more about the rendering and less about the situation, I think this was the main reason for my dislike of the work. Revisiting it I can see urban and architectural interest in it and some pleasant handling of light and structures but the darkness of its inspiration is nowhere present.

I was a painter to begin. I started doing computer art in the late 70s, programmed at first but then evolving into a couple of strands of practice. Today the painting and the computer work interact sometimes, because of digital media I also retrieve and revisit old work when it merits it. Art theorists and historians tend to demand a kind of monotony in creatives' work, I lost interest in that kind of thesis a long time ago so I have fun and do what interests me, hence the range of styles and approaches. If you like anything please show it and tick like, it provides useful motivation.
