About The Artwork
You can use so many and varied materials for encaustic painting that it is necessary to know well its properties and, above all, the compatibility between them. For this work I’ve used Japanese paper with text from Bulgakov’s novel. Japanese paper remains very absorbent and “disappear” as soon as it’s impregnated with wax. I also tried for the first time a burned paper to underline the sense of the text “manuscripts don’t burn”. ? It’s not easy to burn the paper in a controlled way but the effect is highlighted by the wax. A part of the real candle was used to create 3D texture.
