About The Artwork

There is one artwork that hangs forever in my space. It was brought back to France from Tahiti by my great grandfather and passed on to my grandmother who passed it on to my mother and she to me. It is a tapa cloth which I experience as the heart of my home, the earth that I stand on. It hangs prominently in my living room and in front of my desk and is very large in size (4 meters by 2,5) . Tapa clothes are traditional artworks made on the islands of the pacific ocean made from fibers of bark of the mulberry tree. This was the base inspiration for the dye technique I used here on Map in Between the lines. Trying to embody in colour and paint and texture the rawness of the Tapa cloth. After making at least 30 works with this background and each evolving the series ended with this piece. Inspired by my grandmothers birthplace and heritage Tahiti I share an intimate part of my heart. I called it the map because there are many ways to read this painting, many roads that lead to the heart.

Art is my prayer. I try to bridge all my experiences into something beautiful, heal any hurt with the magical touch of paint, an eventual mirror, cloth or mosaic. Unlike my fast paced multitask nature, the moment I sit down to paint I enter another realm there where I can reflect and be still. My greatest inspirations and influences are nature and the magnificence of cultures from around the world. In awe of these wonders it is my wish to pause for a moment, express this beauty, whilst giving thanks. Note: Please take in account that nearly all works presented are unstretched. This is due to weight/shipping and storage. Please ask if you have questions concerning the space surrounding the composition. Email: vnomada@yahoo.com
