About The Artwork

Pierre Pérignon (1639- 1715), known as Dom Pérignon, is a Benedictine monk cellarer and procurator of the abbey Saint Pierre d'Hautvillers who, according to the legend, would have discovered the method to make foam the wine of Champagne in bottle. Champagne seems to result from a pure chance whereas Dom Pérignon worked on the design of its wine. Indeed, the fermentation of the wine made the bottles explode if they were perfectly sealed. This explosion is certainly due to the wax casting device that the monk used as a cork. More than two centuries after his death, Moët & Chandon decided to market the 1921 vintage in 1935. A legend was born, the Champagne Dom Pérignon. Dom Pérignon creates only vintage wines, meaning that the grapes all come from the same year. In addition, Dom Pérignon does not use grapes from "bad" growing seasons. This standard drives up the overall cost of Dom Pérignon. Everything is vintage. Since then, there have been 38 vintages, with 2003 as the last year available. In 1959, the cuvée Dom Pérignon Rosé is born, with 21 vintages now. In 1981, Dom Pérignon was chosen for the wedding of Diana Spencer and Prince Charles. James Bond, facing Doctor No, did not dare to sacrifice a bottle of 1955 even if he preferred the 1953. Immortalized by the famous fashion photographer Bert Stern, Marilyn Monroe in person reveals herself without modesty. A last session a little bit particular realized for Vogue in 1962 and that the star will never see. She died six weeks after these three days of madness, champagne and nudity. In 1962, Bert Stern, was among the world's most celebrated photographers. But the one star he had yet to shoot was arguably the biggest of them all - Marilyn Monroe. When he received the cherished assignment from Vogue, on June 23 he booked a suite at the Bel-Air Hotel in Beverly Hills, and had three bottles of 1953 Dom Pérignon champagne delivered, as his agent had requested him to do. Then the magic happened... During this first session, in a suite of the Bel Air Hotel in Los Angeles, the Hollywood star agrees to partially undress and thus realizes the dream of Bert Stern to photograph Marilyn "in its pure state", as he will reveal in his book The Last Sitting, published in 1982. my painting finds its inspiration in this story, Marilyn, Hollywood star and the famous french Champagne Dom Pérignon. This painting is a mixed media artwork handmade: collages, transfers, upcycling- champagne corks and capsules-, acrylic, isolation coat .and uv gloss varnish. I use a technique of collage and marouflage. I collect images, posters, magazines, I tear, I coat, I glue and I scratch! ORIGINALITY- STYLE- INFLUENCES- COMPOSITION My work is part of the neo pop trend. My artistic influences, essentially pop art and Warhol, street art and Jean michel Basquiat, as well as poster artists like Villeglé, the new realists of the of the 60s. I create assemblies combining photography, painting, collages and inlaying of different materials. Popular themes such as nostalgia and celebrity culture, icons (Marilyn), the woman, object of consumption, representation of the fantasies of a society of the spec- tacle society. References to the cinematographic culture - the emblematic figures of the 7th art Comic book heroes, familiar themes, echoes of our childhood memories. Urban inspirations, city architectures, the luxury of department stores, advertisements logos, illustrating our cultural differences, globalization. I work by series, precise themes, and I put forward a whole dynamism of colors, and my creations are driven by the joy of living. Dynamic compositions and colors and "supercharged" colors. My collages reflect the process of my mind, consisting of discovering, cutting. I play with images, colors and words (visual and verbal). Bringing to life the story of a person, famous or not (main focus), hidden behind the behind the imagery that surrounds it, like a kind of patchwork, an imagined biography. Inspired by Rauschenberg's work, I integrate ordinary found objects and as- seem -cans, corks, fabrics, cardboard, vinyls....... a way to denounce the over consumption. Influenced by cubism -Picasso, Braque- with the introduction of materials, elements integrated in the composition of the painting and Dadaism (display of propaganda). DIVERSITY OF TECHNIQUES -MATERIALS AND SUPPORTS Collages of torn papers, mottled papers, glossy images of magazines, selected and accumulated according to a specific theme, and glued according to a specific technique. and accumulated according to a very precise theme, and glued according to a very specific technique. Working method with scissors, brushes, palette knives, cutters, glues and by adapting his gesture - crumpled, cut or torn paper - Aging of the paper, transfer of the images on the support.
