About The Artwork

This painting is from the Urban Cityscape series from two years ago when I realised how the skyline had changed drastically in just under 8 years. Painted in Acrylic on Canvas, with a multi-layered approach. Why Nairobi? to celebrate this city, its' growth and diversity and its' ever changing skyline that points to these factors. I use colour, space and line drawing to achieve a distinct atmospheric quality, often drawing a parallel with how memory distorts reality and how subtle changes in representation change the ambience and allow viewers to see a space as for the first time again. Matatu Fever- aims to recreate a bit of the hustle and bustle of the city with the ever present Matatu Touts trying to grab clients off the pavements in their good natured way.

Art is more than just its economic value, it gives meaning to life and is the experience of our culture and brings people together. My art reflects the way I perceive things and wish to portray about them. I like working in various mediums and although my themes remain consistent, they are likely to be expressed in watercolour, oil, acrylic or even fabric collage. I worked as an Advertising art Director for several years before I finally found my way back to Art 4 years ago. My work usually stems from inequality issues that face us in Kenya, like gender, poverty, water access, environment and endangered environments and wildlife.
