About The Artwork

Millennial girl-19 Millennial girl Creative concept by Artist Poonkanchi 2021-spring Millennial Girls, This series of works on paper uses ink, acrylic paint, and rice paper as materials to create size in 68x68cm graphic art works in 2020. When I created this "Millennium Girl" painting series, after the "American Drama" painting series, "Millennium Girl" is a more pure continuation of the "American Drama" painting series. The "Millennium Girl" series of paintings are the prosperous fragments in the film photos of the female stars of the beautiful years in Hong Kong in the 1980s and 1990s, or are they fashionable CD covers of female singers in the 1990s? Maybe it's a model for a fashion magazine produced in 2000? Whether it's Japanese OL, hot girls, Lolita subculture, or French haute couture handmade fashion show, all are like a juicer, mixed. Being absorbed by me, providing nourishment, becoming one so they are an ideal shape, seemingly fragile, but strong and repeating constantly, in my mind. Before I came up with the name of the "Millennium Girl", the first I thought of was “SailorMoon or Xiao Jie Jie?" >. SailorMoon refers to the Japanese cartoon anime which played in the 1990s. I still remember that when I was studying in kindergarten, I was deeply fascinated. I have keep using the pencil to draw the copy of Princess Serenity in Sailor Moon anime. I think this is most beautiful one. It also deeply influenced the development of my artistic painting style. “Xiao Jie Jie” means honey sister , some people say it is a popular online term. “Xiao Jie Jie”, I saw these three words around 2020. There are fashion brands printed on t shirt , and in some short films, some people say the word, Miss, Lady, both I've heard , I've been called in Cantonese, I've been ridiculed, and “Xiao Jie Jie”, I've seen it, I've heard it spoken in Mandarin, and I wonder why I need to add a word for sister? Some people say repetition, in order to increase the lovely meaning. With the passage of time, everything will change somewhat, in order to generate a purer impulse towards ideas, so I won’t go into details. To put it simply, the "American Drama” painting series are about some American TV series or films and videos that I watched in 2020s. Those American TV series are not necessarily produced in the same year. Some are new and some are old ones. The oldest ones are in my memory, as A Hong Kong girl who was studying in Secondary School (around 2000) played "Desperate Housewives" on TVB Jade Channel, at that time I didn't finish watching the series completely, Only sometimes I turned on the television to see that the plot was intermittent. I remember the beautiful faces of the housewives, but I don’t know the plot. Now, in 2021, there are already many opportunities and technology, which can be easily replayed on the computer, or watch any favourite drama in its entirety. Because I watched a lot during 2020s, I combined all the different series or films I've seen and loved, called "American Dramas" in short. "American Dramas" is my mainly watched category of TV dramas, divided by region, of course, Japanese dramas, Korean dramas, and mainland dramas. , Hong Kong drama, also exists. There are many reasons why American dramas have won my attention. The speed and rhythm in the development of the plot make me feel so touching . The heroines of the characters in the drama have different stereotypes. There are waiters and science fiction characters, mothers, queens, princesses, students, lawyers, patients, believers, etc. Because Strong female characters in make me unforgettable. I turned them into my goddess of inspiration and reappeared. These goddesses have walked from my eyes and ears to the heart and in my head, and then from my nerves through my muscles, holding the paintbrush with my hands. On paper. It's really amazing! The "American Drama" series of paintings uses ink, acrylic paint, and rice paper as materials. The painting created dozens of 276x68cm artworks in 2020. The works size is big, like 278x68cm, so please see another similar “female” them as an reference.
