oil, enamels, and sprays on Masonite. this spanned 6 years. This is a painting of "mowed corn stalks" that abound in the farm fields of the rural area in which I live. After the annual harvest, farmers mow the cornstalks breaking them at about a foot above ground and allow the stalks and husks to decompose into the soil to fertilize the next year's crop. It is both the end and beginning of the life cycle that human beings manage. It is expressive of both the pragmatic ingenuity and utility as well as the mechanistic dispassion of our time and culture. Most of the 1,000's of people who drive past these fields know nothing of this profound ritual but eat corn. It is a soulful meditation on the color and geometry of man in Nature.
