Murmurs of expanded time I Print

This painting is part of the project "Murmullos of expanded time. A multidimensional patchwork". Working on the project I have been faced with the problem of what to do with —and how to install or circulate in the virtual world— the painting. Because one question is to paint and produce more pieces, and another would be to answer the question: what's next with those? It is very interesting to observe paradoxes in current art. Relatively overloaded and over-saturated with the images circulating in the great network —as of March 2020— we find ourselves deprived of coexistence with live works of art. The "lock downs" and even the "reopens", finally, have reduced social interaction, restricting —among others— contact with art and artists in galleries and museums. Limited hours, limited public, prior telephone appointments to attend exhibitions ... Even taking into account the insecurity due to the danger that has not yet diminished, personally, I have not attended any face-to-face artistic event since the beginning of the pandemic . I'm definitely not the only one. So, works of art (in my case painting) have to find other ways of being exhibited. Distribution undoubtedly falls on social media. They dominate the videos of the production process, virtual exhibitions in 3d or simply a tour/report type guided tour of the exhibition. And I have also encountered the problem of how to install painting in a small and intimate space of the house, being a space of everyday life and family life. Something that was thought of as an exhibition of expanded painting in a museum space had to make a turn to adapt to the space much more complicated than the typical “white cube”, in addition to the virtual modality. Despite being the concrete and physical pieces, his life is not limited to the physical plane. In reality his true life is in cyberspace. There will be no vernissage or visits at my house. The exhibition will only be momentary. Serving more like an ephemeral installation distributed in the form of digital images and/or a video. So time expands because the life of this installation is short. The moment of witnessing the exhibition is the moment of maximum use. Because of its ephemeral nature. Because in a few hours, what became a museum space at home, will disappear followed by the daily life of the house. Family life that was disrupted will return to its daily routine. A patchwork: since we know that reality is very complex and heterogeneous. For this reason, the concept of heterodox art seems more appropriate to me even when the voices that call for a return to orthodoxy can be perceived. Patchwork joined by the threads of intention. Flirting with dimensions to challenge the seemingly unpleasant situation. Flirting with dimensions defying time. The denatured time that opens, the affective time, the emotional duration, beyond the rhythms dictated by haste and uncertainty.
