About The Artwork
I grew up along the coast of the North-sea in Flushing (Vlissingen, Zeeland, the Netherlands). The sea became part of who I am. This painting is an impression of what you could experience on a stormy afternoon along the beach. It is painted in a 'close to realism' style, it sketches my feelings and experiences with this kind of weather. Besides it is an exercise in painting techniques and a turning point in my artistic awareness, impressionism and abstraction are the tools. The work is in oil on canvas, I like the colors, the smell and the proces of oil-painting. After this painting acrylic paint is sometimes used to set up and start a new work.

I am an artist living in the Netherlands. Foremost I am a composer of electronic art-music. Second I am a painter. Long time ago I studie physics at Utrecht University and after graduation I was a researcher and teacher at the department of physics, that was in 1976 - 1981. I developed a strong focus for art in general and painted for a couple of years, played the piano and started composing. From 1981 - 1989 I studied music, piano, composition of electronic music and got a job in 1985 at what later on became Utrecht University of the Arts, the School of Music and Technology. I worked full-time at that job until my retirement in 2017. In 2014 I moved to a home with a huge atelier/workshop and started painting again. Nowadays I spend my days on composition of electronic music, playing and teaching piano, directing a choir (SATB) and painting/drawing/working on graphic art.
