About The Artwork

What is hiding behind Kurt Cobain’s melancholic eyes? Cultural icons reflect our social imagination and represent our collective identity. They are immediately recognizable and form an integral part of our shared landscape. To put it simply, they are ultra-famous. At the same time, don’t they always remain shrouded in mystery? In the end, are they not just empty vessels devoid of any real meaning? In this painting, Miss K seeks to reveal the motivations and drama behind the public personas of Cobain. A fan of Nirvana, her aim is to restore meaning, to reinterpret and to understand the essential humanity of this larger-than-life figure. Kurt Cobain has always been synonymous with the Grunge movement and the Generation X. Adolescence and rebellion. Yet, didn't he had a clear vision of the society he was living in? His suicide in 1994 further adds to his complex personality.
