About The Artwork

This painting is part of an ongoiing series since 2005. I have been painting the same person over and over again. In endless repetition. Emphatically not posing. I am fascinated by the moment of recognition; the glimpse that is enough to recognise someone from miles away. Painting the same person over gives me the freedom to explore the texture of oil paint, color, material away from the subject and at the same time the painting are interacting with each other. Within this subseries have emerged: standing portraits, the sailing series and resized series. In the sailing series my passion for sailing, the subject and the material and light on the water all come together. I am searching for an open touch, balancing on the thin line between detail and painting stroke. My paintings might sometimes look fastly painted sometimes almost unfinished they are certainly not. This is a look I carefully aim at, working with oil paint is a slow process, in reality it takes weeks sometimes months to complete a painting.
