About The Artwork

A pink, feminine, stylized gold leaf uterus embraced by a red passion flower vine crown and wrapped in a suffragette sash that reads “Not your business” in black glitter and resin. The uterus is resting in a bed of purple art nouveau Mackintosh roses. The ovaries have a nod to surrealism in how they portray the acceptance of a life lived with the challenges of women’s health issues. This painting, for me, reflects my personal journey with women’s health issues, accepting my struggles and transforming those struggles into something beautiful. Each element represents something deeply personal for me, yet how it is interpreted by the viewer is, as the suffragette banner says, not your (or my) business. Something so intimate and personal can only be experienced. Once the artwork is completed, the interpretation is up to the viewer’s experience. What started out as a journey of acceptance for me can be a vastly different experience for the viewer, which is the beauty of art. This painting has brought me many beautiful memories and conversations. It is either immediately loved, or very much not loved. Some hard conversations have also been had, and some surprising revelations. Polarizing opinions have a way of boiling to the surface when confronted with a large image such as this. It can make some people incredibly uncomfortable. Some dialogues have opened for heartwarming stories, bonding conversations and sharing deeply personal moments. This image has also been a way to bridge difficult conversations and topics. All of the reactions, comments and conversations are completely valid. It is now time for this artwork to move on. I am seeking the right home for this painting, where it can continue to open thoughtful, kind and sometimes emotional conversations in a respectful environment. If this speaks to you, please consider purchasing this artwork.
