About The Artwork

This is one in a set of small acrylic paintings of nude females in three colours. It started off as a study for larger pieces although these never came to fruition. I am fascinated by the manipulation of the human figure and the simplification of its complexity. As a colourblind artist, I paint in layers of colour and chose these colours to starkly contrast between the simplified tones on this painting.

I am a colourblind, autistic artist currently based in Medway, Kent, UK. I was born in London and raised in Medway, Kent where, after a few comings and goings, I now reside and work as an acrylic artist. I have a studio in Chatham, Kent, in the Nucleus Arts Centre. The comings and goings involved time living in Angers and Montpellier, France, and Warsaw, Poland as well as hopping around the UK from Bangor and Anglesey in North Wales to the Isle of Wight and Bristol. I also run workshops and talks about colourblindness and autism and have had many solo and group exhibitions. I have a global reach with art sold in may different countries. I have a unique style which is borne out of my lifelong colourblindness; I paint in layers of colour and use the colours to represent the dark and light shades in my painting rather than to use the “realist” colours. As I do not blend or overpaint, my work has a striking and sometimes stark style. It is hand painted, not screen printed or computer manipulated. I have been commissioned a number of times to produce work based on a local theme and have large canvas work hanging in apartment foyers in Rochester and St. Mary’s Island, Chatham, Kent. I have designed album covers and insert posters for a number of bands as well as book covers. I have a particular interest in manipulating colour and figure painting, although enjoy experimenting with different subject matter and painting surfaces. I'm always up for a challenge (artistically speaking!).
