NUMBER TWENTY-TWO is the twenty-second painting of The Numbered Series. Like all in the series, it was made with no planning or previsualization; the image was created in the active process of painting. While the work is not overtly thematic, it reflects and is imbued with my personal thoughts and feelings. As an image of "pure abstraction" it invites a multiplicity of interpretations and readings as to its "meaning". All interpretations are valid and correct!

Visual Artist: painting/sculpture & photography Lives and works in Hoboken, NJ "My work is improvisational in that I begin each piece with no pre-visualization or plan, all I bring is myself and my focused attention. Marks and shapes assemble themselves with my help and fall into relationships with each other. I completely avoid didacticism and illustration in my work; I don't make thematic pieces that aim at depicting anything overtly. Yet, all my works are vested with meaning in that they are imbued with my state of mind at the time of their making. So, thoughts, concepts, quotations, moods, and visual memories all find their places in my works. Probably my greatest challenge is to capture essences and states of being that transcend spoken and written language. Whether my work is regarded as pure abstraction - visuals with no programmed purpose, or as representational work - which captures the likenesses of immaterial things... it is of no particular matter to me. Despite the deeply personal nature of my work, once each piece is finished and is released out into the world, it resonates and converses with each viewer in it's own way. My works speak of many particular things and while each piece has a very particular meaning to me, it's essential meaning to another person may be quite different than mine. And that's just fine with me In fact, that makes me very happy." -Greg Letson
