O Curlew, Cry No More in the Air Print

An acrylic on canvas painting - the title is inspired by a poem 'O curlew, cry no more in the air' by WB Yeats The image is set on a hill where I spent my childhood years - Eagle Hill, Hacketstown, Ireland .The wild animals are native to Ireland - and were once plentyfull but like many wild creatures are not as common as they once were, the number of curlews has sadly declined in Ireland due to habitat loss.Increased afforestation and agricultural practices causing reducing habitats are responsible for these declines.The cry of the curlew is plaintive, distinctive and somewhat sad. 'O curlew, cry no more in the air, Or only to the waters in the West; Because your crying brings to my mind Passion-dimmed eyes and long heavy hair That was shaken out over my breast: There is enough evil in the crying of wind'.
