ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A few weeks ago I traveled to a small German town. It was the town that my father was stationed in Germany in the early 1970s. He lived there with my mother and my sister before I was born. No one in my family could remember the address. We only had an old photograph & the name of the town, Oberkirchen We drove to the small town with less than 3000 inhabitants with the photo in hand, and in less than five minutes we tracked down the house. My husband took a photo of me and our two girls sitting in the same spot my dad, mom, and sister sat in nearly 50 years ago. This painting is a composite of the 1970s photo and my photo as well as the arched bridge that cuts across one end of town. Memories and history joined together.
