About The Artwork

Wide open fields describe the rural areas of Utah, some of my favorite scenes to paint. I grew up running through these fields on my grandpas farm. I hope m’y viewer can feel the freedom, fresh air of country living. I love thé texture from the oil, and cold wax, soft palette of colors give the viewer a peaceful feeling, one I hope translate to the viewer.

HI I'm Melanie Ferguson, an Abstract/ Mixed-Media artist living abroad in Aix en Provence, France. I grew up in Utah, where my art journey began, surrounded by the majestic Wasatch mountains. The natural beauty was my first introduction to color, light & texture. Color combinations, and multi-layers best describe my art, and always looking for different ways to create vibrant, unique, combinations of color, and texture. My collage process is influenced by textures from nature (ie.leaves) papers, and little gems I find exploring in everyday life. Sometimes my art begins on the side of the road where I've found an interesting object, or color combos I find on an old, rusty door. I use photos I've taken, acrylic paint, oil paint, cold-wax, and various collage elements to weave a story with my art. My goal isn’t to give my viewer a realistic photo painting, I want the art lover them to draw their own conclusions. I want them to look and look again, always finding something new in the depths of its layers.
