Orchids 1 Print

In much of my artwork, I try to combine elements from my Indian heritage together with modern mediums and themes. Batik is an ancient art form used extensively in India and throughout Asia and Africa to decorate textiles. In some batik processes, artisans use wax to create resist patterns on a cloth that they later dye in different hues. I have brought this batik process to paper, not using wax and dyes, but a mix of other materials to obtain a similar resist effect. I do plan out the major elements of design, but the batik process gives beautiful and unexpected details in the work. exotic shapes and color inspire me to this painting.
