ABOUT THE ARTWORK

PR Lolli 1 is an ode to Puerto Rico. After living there for 10 months, I returned to "the states" and produced PR Lolli 1 and PR Lolli 2. The sounds, colors and foods of Puerto Rico left an indelible impression on me and I wanted to capture them abstractly in the forms of circles attached to a green stem. They look like lollipop trees and that is where the "Lolli" comes from in the title with the territory abbreviation "PR." The colors are symbolic. I associate green with the lushness of El Yunque, blue with the Caribbean and phosphorescent bays, and yellow with the bright, intense sunshine. When you are in Puerto Rico, particularly in winter or after a downpour, you feel like your senses can absorb and taste the colors that abound in the natural landscapes.
