About The Artwork

I basically paint on hemp cloth, or wood panel which is dyed by persimmon tannin. To use natural materials is one of the elements to create my inspiration . Before I start to do painting, I dye wood panels or cloth first at my balcony in the early morning. The time makes me relax and calm. Also, I can imagine and plan my paintings in that time. That takes a few weeks or more a month until the color is perfect, and It’s not a short time, but I need this time because waiting for something results with patience is able to be one of the keys to my entire paintings. I rarely don’t use white canvas. I have a few reasons for it, but the biggest reason is the texture of white canvas does not fit my sensation. Also the color of artificial pure white always prevents my sense of color. But I sometimes use it for practicing or drawing. 【Persimmon tannin(Kakishibu)】 Kakishibu is an extract obtained by crushing and pressing the unripe fruits of astringent persimmons, fermenting and ripening them. It is a reddish-brown, translucent liquid that contains a large amount of persimmon tannin. Normally, it is used as an undiluted solution for painting, but the color becomes darker as time passes after application. Due to its antiseptic properties, it has been used since ancient times to coat mummified bodies and to preserve and strengthen fishing nets and fishing lines used underwater . It is also used as a base coat for painting woodwork and wooden buildings, and mixed with rope ash and used to paint exterior walls. In addition, when it is applied to paper and allowed to dry, it becomes hard and sturdy and has waterproof properties, so it was once used as a material for paper fans, umbrellas, and paper clothing, and is still today as a material for paper crafts such as dyeing patterns.

Based in Japan My artworks focus on my inner world and the space and structure within it. The birds that commonly appear among them are symbols of neutral and objective existence for me. Also, I often paint free-form pictures of just birds. They are based on my love for birds. But they are also for the sake of making as many birds as possible fly in the world. Instagram @caw___coo
